Last Call: The Last In Line

Welcome to our Last Call for the evening. First, before we get to the sports links, we have a glorious music video for you.

This is Ronnie James Dio of Black Sabbath and Dio fame, doing the great song “Last in Line” live in New York City. Now, there’s an even better song Dio is famous for, the legendary “Holy Diver”, and there’s a fantastic video of it involving metal band Killswitch Engage and featuring scenes from Hot Fuzz (which, if you haven’t watched, you really need to). Unfortunately, it can’t be embedded, but I highly recommend checking it out. After all, it features Simon Pegg kicking some serious ass, and what can be wrong with that?

Make his day.

Make his day.

On to the sports links:

- Ron and Pau (no, not Ron Paul) go to the movies [Style Points]

- lowercase on how to fix the BCS without a playoff [The Phoenix Pub]

- Fuse looks at the financial problems in Scottish football, and their implications for the rest of the world [Avoiding The Drop]

- Dave Clark’s great Seattle soccer blog is now part of SB Nation. [Sounder At Heart]

- Swine flu, Michael Bishop and an impending CFL lockout [Orland Kurtenblog]

- Lloyd The Barber looks back at his season predictions, and has exclusive video of the Yankee parade [Ghostrunner on First]

- And last, but not least, I’ll be live-blogging tonight’s CFL clash between B.C. and Edmonton at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. Pacific. It’s the last regular-season game for both teams, and it has huge playoff implications. Feel free to swing by and join in the discussion; CFL newbies are welcome!
[Sporting Madness]

- I leave you with this video of Elizabeth Lambert channelling her inner Roy Keane during a BYU – New Mexico women’s soccer game. Andy has more on it over at The Sporting Blog. Party it up in the comments, but no hair-pulling, please!

I actually found it very entertaining.

She is more physical that than every soccer or hockey player plus anyone every associated with Duke.

But much like everyone at Duke she got a pussy. Well maybe not so much, she might have some pretty big balls.

I like both the Lions (live here) and the Esks (grew up there) so I guess I’ll just have to root for a meteor to hit the Blue Bombers.

Good call on “Last in Line”. The original 80’s video turned me into a full-on headbanger.

Oh yeah, I’m a big Dio fan. He did some quality stuff with his solo project. Instead of the Blue Bombers, how about rooting for a meteor to hit the Argonauts? There isn’t much difference between that franchise and a hole in the ground, anyway.

        … because:

        a) Bluebombers loss (or forfeit due to annihilation): both Esks & Lions make playoffs regardless of tonight’s outcome

        b) Winnipeg is a very sad city. A meteor would be an improvement

        c) I have a completely irrational soft spot for the Argos. When they’re good, I love to hate them. When they’re bad, I relish their pain. Toronto makes for a great villain. Would hate to lose that.

        d) Notwithstanding previous comments, Strange Highways and Magica are Dio’s best work. (Not really related but wanted to throw that out there.)

Haha, good points on all fronts. I love the Simpsons line: “Welcome to Winnipeg. We were born here; what’s your excuse?”

Dio? Fighting soccer babes? I’m so pissed I wasn’t invited to party with you in Wisconsin, Bucholtz. We would tear Madison up!

Unfortunately, everyone in Madison was a bigger fan of Miley Cyrus than Dio. I still have “Party In The USA” stuck in my head…

So, the Lions are officially on their fifth different QB now. Feel free to come by the live blog if you want to laugh at my misery…
