NHL recap

I, for one, welcome our new Slovenian overlord-as of Thursday afternoon, your NHL points leader was…Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings, with 21 points, including 10 goals. Go figure. Alexander Ovechkin of Washington leads the league in goals with 13 and one Ryan Miller was leading the league in save percentage (.944), GAA (1.60), and as usual, Chinese trash talk. Also, the Sabres announced that they will not be sending rookie defenseman Tyler Myers back to juniors because they haven’t so much as had a player even mentioned in October since the Islanders were still perennial playoff contenders.

Sooooo, David Booth had quite the concussion this week-hit courtesy of Mike Richards of Philadelphia. Sadly, this still probably ranks way lower on the list of Gruesome Injuries in Florida Panthers history behind Richard Zednik’s near death experience in early 2008.

Well, that was quick-it took him 12 games, during which he briefly tied the league lead with 10 goals, but Marian Gaborik had his latest injury this week, when he collided with a teammate and hurt his knee. At least he doesn’t have H1N1, which is more than Quintin Laing of Washington, Peter Budaj of Colorado, Doug Weight of the Islanders, and Ladislav Smid of Edmonton can say.

Games of the week-Toronto’s first games of the year against Buffalo and Montreal on Friday and Saturday (for those who thought this past Monday’s Eagles-Redskins game was too competitive), Detroit vs. Calgary on Saturday, and Colorado vs. Vancouver on Sunday
