This story by SI’s Allan Muir pretty much encapsulates everything that’s messed up about the NHL today.

You have the NHL broadcasting well over half of its national games on a network that’s apparently not receiving high enough ratings to earn the money they’re receiving from the nation’s largest satellite TV provider. You have that network demanding even more money from said provider, even though they’re not in a position to do so.  And don’t forget this is a league that needs as much national exposure as possible. And yet the league seems to have no comment about this fairly significant (for them) dispute at all.  Then again, they do seem to be a little preoccupied right now.
