The College World Series: Where Even The Cops Party
Day One of the College World Series did not involve me meeting Erin Andrews. I always have this hope that I’ll run into her somewhere during the course of the CWS – hey, Omaha’s not that big – but it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe I should try better stalker techniques. Wait, where am I?
Oh, right. Say what you will about some LSU fans, but I’ve never had a bad experience with them here in Omaha. There’s always a shitload of them in all kinds of purple and gold get-up, and all it takes is a “go Tigers!” to score yourself some free beverages or food. Spirited and generous. Yeah!
Even though I have benefited from LSU generosity in the past*, this sight from Saturday night surprised me.
This dude is sharing his plate of food with….a police officer.
*Prime example: After UNC eliminated LSU last summer, I was walking out of the stadium with some bummed out Tigers fans when a Jeep pulled up to the curb next to us. A 40-something guy got out and started unloading coolers on to the curb, offering their contents to any Tiger fan in the area. He gave my friends NINE COOLERS full of various boozes, and refused to accept any sort of repayment for it. He said, “I have to go home now since LSU is out, so someone may as well benefit from my leftovers.” Umm…thanks!
Anyway, the College World Series is one giant party, even for people who don’t like metal bats (me). If you can’t get to Omaha, you can at least check out some of the sweet action (plus Erin Andrews reporting from the field) on ESPN and ESPN2. And The Rookies will keep you updated on all the partying cops.
