not a deadspin commenter and not really sure how I got to this thread, but I bet you there’s a heavy correllation between the commenter revoked list and the verbally abused Moe all weekend last month list. Did that dude who said she smoked meth get banned? Cuz whoever you are, that shit was so worth it.

I’ve been a long-time Deadspin commenter. I don’t guess I’ve ever been funny and basically found that edict in the comment manifesto to be a load of crap….but I think the point remains that Deadspin is not a sports site (or if it is, it’s a lousy one), it’s a sport’s fan’s site, and that involves some tasteless jokes, comraderie, random stories, and relationship building that takes time.

The majority of the posts (even under Leach) have never been that good. 3 sentences explaining something dumb an athelete did.

The ones that were good (and under Delario, that ones that still are good) are the ones that describe the life of the sports fan – the failures, the success, the tears, the swearing. But those are few and far between (and have gotten fewer and farther-er between) with the cuts in writers and guest writers.

The comments have always made the site what it is. If it weren’t for the comments, ‘You’re with me leather’ would have been funny for one day and gone. Mocking the death of a horse is in bad taste (would this now be ban-worthy?), but as a meme it’s funny.

So what should they do? Enforce the commenter manifesto. Avoid tasteles posts (tasteless posts beget tasteless jokes) and see what happens.

@ Who Cares?: Shouldn’t a “fucking genius” have a better grasp of comma/apostrophe usage and rules of syntax? I mean, you fucked up three times in this sentence alone: “Its [sic] a fucking website[,] you mary’s [sic].”

In other news, commenting about how little you care about what other people are commenting about is somehow more lame than the original commentary. Irony, thy name is Who Cares?

I have no dog in this fight since I’m not a deadspin commentor or ever wanted to be but I can’t pass up the opportunity to point out how gay this all looks. Its a fucking website you mary’s. They don’t want you anymore so just move on. Having a shitfit over being banned a or even better “destarred” is possibly the lamest thing I’ve ever seen. In the 5 minutes it took me to figure out what was going on I feel like a fucking genius compared to you assholes.

I’m sooo sorrry you’ve made lasting e-friends that are being taken away from you! The spirit of the site has changed , Man!

I’ve lost a family, in a sense. Too many to acknowledge (though that early banhammer list pretty much shut me down on DS).

THAT community was the one I lurked on DS for.

And for SO many of them to be either shut off or made to re-apply? Adios, DS. I don’t go back to restaurants that treat me like shit, and I’m not going back to internet sites that do the same, even if they don’t realize what they are doing…

I just have to say in a non-funny moment… thank you for that version of Amazing Grace. It was played at my grandma’s funeral when I was in 5th grade, and the song is one of the few powerful memories I have of her.

Every time I hear it, I get both wet-eyed and appreciative for what I do have in this world, even if it isn’t all that much. So yeah, thanks.
