The Rookies

Remember Marcus Giles? The former 2003 All-Star second basemen? Well he’s a non-roster invitee to Phillies Camp. And he’s not the only name of old that’s trying to latch on with the World Champions.

There’s Gary Majewski, former National and pitcher for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic trying to get back in the majors. Pablo Ozuna’s here, along with Miguel Cairo. You can’t forget former San Francisco Outfielder and supposed ‘top prospect’ Jason Ellison, a player who a friend once told me would be the ‘next big thing’. I laughed at him then and I’m laughing now. There’s also former Pirates’ starting catcher Ronny Paulino, and 33 year old Relief Pitcher Mike Koplove (who was born in Philadelphia). Former Marlins reliever Blaine Neal rounds out that crew.

There are some former studs (Giles), top prospects (Paulino, Ellison) and top notch utility guys in camp (Pablo Ozuna, Miguel Cairo).
